  • 2 boneless beef chops or chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • Optional: shredded cabbage, green onion, toasted sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1. Season the beef or chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. 2. Dredge in flour, dip into beaten egg, then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  3. 3. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. 4. Fry each cutlet for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  5. 5. For the tonkatsu sauce, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder until smooth.
